About Chip

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Rescue ID: PP080214BLA
  • General Color: Gray
  • Declawed: No

We believe Chip to be a Chihuahua/Chinese Crested mix pup. He is about six months old and weighs approximately four pounds. Chip is not crate trained or housebroken, so he will need help and guidance with all of these things; however, he is off to a good start in his foster home. Chip gets along well with all other dogs and cats, but will need to be looked out for because of his teacup size. We do feel he will do best in a home where he has another small pup he can play with or even a kitty he can be playful with.  Because Chip is part Chinese Crested he will never grow much more hair and will never get much bigger than he is right now. Whatever fortunate family adopts Chip will need to understand the delicate nature of his skin and balance it with the need for Chip to be a “regular” dog. Chip has also started leash training and learning to come, right now Chip's tendency is to dance his way through life including all over the house and under furniture.

Maintenance of the Hairless variety's skin is similar to maintaining human skin and as such it can be susceptible to acne, dryness, and sunburn. Hypoallergenic or oil-free moisturizing cream can keep the skin from becoming too dry when applied every other day or after bathing. Burning can occur in regions that are subject to strong UV radiation, especially in lighter-skinned dogs.  Owners should apply baby sunscreen to Chips skin before spending time in strong sun. Some hairless breeds have skin allergies to Lanolin, so be cautious when using any products that contain it. Little t-shirts should also be kept on hand to help protect the skin.
